Dupont Circle Snowball Fight

Rushing the Fountain
Originally uploaded by Jadxia
I arrived early to Dupont Circle and warmed up with hot drinks at Hotel Dupont, who had built a snowbar outside special for the occasion. Met quite a few friendly folks before meandering to the circle proper to scout a place.

Originally, the fight was supposed to be north vs. south. Only moments after I'd walked up to the fountains base, however, the mob decided it was really fountain vs. everybody else in the outside circle. This is the one quick shot I snapped frantically as hundreds of people began charging the fountain and pelting us with snowballs.

Some enterprising fellow decided to construct a makeshift flag using a stick and what I believe was a shirt. His group charged the fountain, determined to claim a quick victory. Shouting erupted from behind me, cries of 'Flag! Flag! Get the flag!" I couldn't see anything through my goggles so I took them off to figure out what was going on.

It was at that moment a careening snowball, aimed at the flagman, smashed me dead in the left eyeball. Flailing, I staggered back, brought low by friendly fire (if any fire could be called friendly in a huge snowball fight without clear teams).

jadxia: Awesome

Snowball fight goes global :D Funny thing, from the camera angles, I think I remember this cameraman being destroyed by snowballs during the fight.

american_arcane: ha! Awesome

Wish I could have made it down into DC for this. Looks much more fun than how I spent my Saturday (sitting in a cold apartment out in the far end of Marlyand hoping that power would come back on).

Yah, I knew a few ppl whose power was out, but everyone was too far away to come to my place. Our power pretty much never goes out since we have underground lines.

We would have totally put you up for a day or so. (Remember this for Tuesday's snow, lol.)
