Blogroll July 2009 DC Blogger's Meetup

I spent most of Tuesday prepping notes for the Blogger's Meetup, the first one I was to organize, and somehow, the night before my colonoscopy. Ugly how that worked out in the scheduling. So I knew I was going to be a total wreck on Wednesday, what with not being able to eat and then having to rush out to start the whole GoLytely series. Thank goodness I had someone offer to help me organize after I'd already thought myself up the proverbial creek. We had a great turnout, although it's never up to my insane vision ideals I dance around in my head. Strangely, we had several people turn up who weren't members of meetup, which was eerie but cool.

A Glenn -- http://jenesaisrein.blogspot.com & Good and Green -- my assistant and savior for the meetup

My Twitterfeed -- http://twitter.com/jadxia -- I post to this every time I post something to ANY of my numerous blogs. It's a convenient way to follow along with what I'm doing.

Now if I could just get all these bloggers actually blogging on the new communal site. Of course, I haven't actually set it up yet (it's at DistrictBloggers.com), but I'm still taking new articles to be transfered over later. Where's my 80/20 people!? (There are 500 in this meetup, if 20% were active that would be 100 active members. Sad when your goal is 20% participation.) Of course, those who throw stones.... I myself am still two blogposts behind. More to come later.

Blogroll for DC Blogger Meetup May 2009

The blogger meetup turned out great people-wise, but I was a little disappointed by our lackluster waitress. The venue has also gotten too loud to bear, so we've been shopping around for a new space and I hope to have something settled soon. Below is the official blogroll for this month's attendees.

http://blogpharm.com & http://pharmcountry.net -- pharmacy related blogs

http://swordandthescript.blogspot.com/ -- a blog that studies applications of marketing

http://notionscapital.com -- local DC blog

http://tbarbeeweb.com/theweblady -- blog devoted to helping small business owners utilize software and technology they already possess
Her Twitterfeed -- http://twitter.com/thewlady

http://tagatac.blogspot.com/ -- a new blog

My Twitterfeed -- http://twitter.com/jadxia -- I post to this every time I post something to ANY of my numerous blogs. It's a convenient way to follow along with what I'm doing.

The Ron Paul Social Experiment

Met the guy who will probably be my studio photographer for the website yesterday, followed by getting a free student haircut and then went out to the blogger meetup to hang with the usual suspects. Somehow, I've been promoted to director of marketing, which is kind of funny considering I probably have the least popular weblog out of anyone at the table.

At some point, we discussed the merits or demerits of a crazed cult fan-following and we unoffically dubbed ourselves the DC Blogfights with something similar to the rules of Fight Club.

1) You must blog about BLOG FIGHTS.
2) You MUST blog about BLOG FIGHTS.
3) If someone posts "end fight", the fight is over.
4) Only two people to a fight.
5) One fight at a time.
6) No pictures, no videos.
7) Fights will go on as long as they have to.
8) If this is your first night at BLOG FIGHTS, you HAVE to fight.

We also talked about the cult of Ron Paul, and to be honest I had only an inkling of who he was... 'conservative' my mind says and lumps him into a back corner. Ended up going home and Wiki'ed him to discover Ron Paul was a conservative libertarian in the eyes of most. In my mind, this effectively makes him well written on paper (why do libertarain codes look so tasty until you try to implement them?) and then in real life about as sane as your average rabid dog. This is how I feel about most libertarians. I even subscribed to the tenets (briefly calling myself libertarian) until I actually met a few and discovered them to basically be candidates for padded walls and straightjackets... and maybe some kind of drool-restraint to contain all that frothing vitriol.

Morgue woke me up twice today, the first time with the slamming of the doors and the second when he started up his guitar lesson in the afternoon. I try to sleep 1000-1800 on days I work, and even though I've been off (and sleeping at night, mostly) I will also nap in the day to catch up on the sleep I lose over the weekend. This is potentially contributing to my spirits today. I hate having my sleep disturbed but I also hate sleeping all day, even when I need it.

I'm unsure how to market for the bloggers, and whether or not blogfights are really a viable option. For others who would like to attend a meetup, visit meetup.com and lookup DC bloggers... it's pretty easy to join.
