The FrankenStorm Cometh

So, this Hurricane Sandy has led to a slew of "Jade World Problems" (these are problems so out there they aren't even First World problems anymore).

1) I only have enough unsalted butter to make two batches of biscotti.
2) The ballet studio is closed so I can't go to stretch class.
3) Internet is getting sloppy and I'm having problems shopping and posting to Pinterest things I want to buy.
4) Without properly bright daylight, I can't stencil the hummingbird on my wall as I'd planned.
5) Boyfriend won't let me build a wall made of gallons of water on my windowsill.
6) I can't find, or may be out of, craft paper. And without craft/tissue paper, how am I supposed to build a proper pumpkin-themed emergency hall light?
7) If the power goes out, I'll have to heat my coffee water on the stove.
8) If the power goes out, it's going to ruin my science project I'm currently running involving storage times/methods for red bell peppers.
9) More of my neighbors have shut their blinds = less random acts of voyeurism than usual.
10) Someone will want me to bake bread. It doesn't get more humid than this, and my French bread only comes out orgasmically perfect when it's been raining for days.

jadxia: Regular bow?

One like this would probably be legal, but I wouldn't be able to use it with my hands like they are.

Have your boyfriend purchase this for you (maybe as a early Xmas gift). As far as I am aware, unlike firearms, it is legal to own in the District. You can sling it over your shoulder and carry it around to use it as personal protection as well as a home defense weapon. I handled one at a local sporting goods store recently. It is very well balance and as such does not feel heavy at all, in fact it feels lighter than it's actual weight. Granted you can only get one shot off before having to cock and load it again but once you get the hang of it you should be able to cock and load it in less than 30 seconds. And besides just pointing it at someone is enough to deter them I would think. It shoots an arrow/bolt at 365 FPS which is enough to go cause the arrow/bolt to go through a person's body at 40 yards or less and has a kill range of up to 60 yards. Of course when using it against a zombie you need to shoot it into their eye socket. Anyway, later ...

jadxia: You would be wrong

Crossbows are generally considered the same as guns, it depends on the draw power of the bow. This one is CERTAINLY illegal.

They are not considered the same as guns. Anyone can simply go to a sporting goods store (or order one online) without any hassles what so ever. No license required or such. Lay down your money and walk out of the store with one. Simple.

United States

Like many other laws on weapons and hunting in the United States, laws on crossbows vary a great deal by state. Purchase, private ownership, and use for target shooting is legal in all states,[7] and most laws are only with regard to hunting.
For crossbow hunting in the US, many states require a person to have a disability or special license to use one, and they can only be used for certain game. For example, in Georgia a crossbow may be used in hunting feral hogs and any other game except waterfowl. Ohio permits crossbow hunting of deer, turkeys, hogs and other game. On the other extreme, Oregon, for example, has a complete ban on crossbow hunting.[8] --- Wiki Pedia

jadxia: It doesn't mention DC

Which, by the way, isn't a State and doesn't have hunting laws because YOU CAN'T HUNT IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.

Ok one more video (last one here on this post, promise, haha) Shows one with an attachment that makes the cross bow a semi automatic (though to my dismay it seems it is no longer available, the attachment that is sigh):

jadxia: Whatever

Didn't watch the video, it's all fine well and good, but has NOTHING to do with what I just posted... or if there is a connection I don't see it.

Weaponry is, in general, not a "Jade World problem" it's a third world/post apocalypse problem and why people keep trying to sell me on things that are ILLEGAL I don't know. I'm NOT INTERESTED. I don't know how much more clearly I can state that.

WOW, did not mean to get you so jumping annoyed/upset Jade. I was not trying to sell you anything by the way. And besides, like I mentioned already a cross bow is not an illegal piece of equipment to own (unlike a firearm is in some areas). Granted one cannot walk around the streets of D.C. with a ready to fire crossbow rifle slung over their shoulder, haha. But hey, it's kewl. Though do not run screaming into the night when the Walking Dead appear and you find all you have is a butter knife to defend yourself with, haha.

Later ...

*So, before Xmas for that coffee, tea or booze ?
